Late Honeymoon Phase

The beginning of an exchange is a harrowing experience. Sure, some gentle souls may assure you "oh, it's like the honeymoon phase! oh la, la la", but for me personally, it was mostly just a ton of "you know nothing" bricks being thrown at my face daily. But that's all ok, because now in late December, I am experiencing my own kind of honeymoon phase. Sure, I could blame it on the Christmas cookies that fill every hip and happening German kitchen, particularly Lebkuchen. Lebkuchen, which translates directly to "heaven" in English (naaaa, I lied. ha.), is a thick, dark, cinnamon, ginger and fruity filled masterpiece. Is it cake? Is it a cookie? IT'S BOTH, PEOPLE. BOTH. You can also put chocolate on it, or build a small house from it if you feel so inclined. Nobody gonna judge. But another thing that adds to this late honeymoon phase of mine, is that I have been helping out with my theater group's Christmas musical, which sadly ended today...

Congratulations! You should be pretty darn proud of yourself for getting this far. Alas, you have miles to go before you sleep. Hopefully these tips will help you nail the interview, and accomplish your lovely dreams. You got this. Get Fancy: It's tempting to arrive at the interview clad in your muddy Doc Martins and unwashed Smiths t-shirt being all like "I will not conform to societal expectations, rah rah rah" but for real, don't do it . This is a big deal, and you need to dress like you care. Iron some good shirts, break out those uncomfortable yet awfully classy shoes, and do this thing. Home can be the place to let your freak flag fly, not the boardroom.    Talk To Humans: See that ruddy faced, yet promising individual over there? Talk to them! Scotland: Glasgow and Edinburgh Reflection

Scotland is not “chill”. Even during the super touristy and internationally focused Fringe Festival, Edinburgh managed to shine through in short and concentrated bursts.  A guy donning a traffic cone as a hat. Old friends simultaneously smashing their beer pitchers on the ground in joyful exclamation. A somehow soaked man screaming words of racial acceptance into the afternoon air. “I don’t fackin care if yer black or yer white, YOU ARE WELCOME BY ME.” Dogs are encouraged almost anywhere, and locals will actively chase you down to correct the slightly false directions they gave you five minutes earlier. There’s a warmth to Scotland that emanates from the cobble-stone streets and extends to the crooked smiles of its people.
